Winter Warming Center Volunteer Host

Tedford Housing’s overnight Warming Center provides a safe, low-barrier space for unhoused neighbors—including families and pets—to stay warm during the winter months. Open nightly from November 15 through May 1, the Center offers meals, rest, and safety to community members who need it most.

We are currently seeking substitute Volunteer Hosts who are willing to step in on an occasional, as-needed basis. Volunteer Hosts help serve dinner, keep the kitchen clean and organized, and contribute to a welcoming, respectful environment for guests. A brief orientation with Tedford staff is required.

Commitment: Flexible. Ideal for volunteers who are available to fill in for a 3-hour evening shift (3:00–6:00 pm)

If this sounds like a good fit for you, please complete the following google application, or contact Emily Bollman, Tedford’s Volunteer Coordinator (ebollman@tedfordhousing.org | 207-503-8894).

Meal-A-Month: Help Nourish Our Community

One of the most important and longest-running volunteer efforts at Tedford is the Meal-A-Month program. Every night of the year, dedicated volunteers—including restaurants, churches, neighborhood groups, and individuals—provide a warm, home-cooked meal for guests at our adult shelter.

How it works:

  • Volunteers prepare a nutritious meal for 24 people once per month.

  • Meals typically include a main course, side and/or salad, and sometimes fruit or dessert.

  • Meals should be delivered to the shelter at 65 Thomas Point Road with enough time to reheat or add finishing touches. To ensure everything is ready for dinner service at 5:00 PM, we ask that meals arrive no later than 4:30 PM.

Current Meal-a-Month Vacancies:

  • 2nd Thursday

  • 4th Wednesday

  • 5th Sunday

If interested in filling a vacancy, please email Volunteer Coordinator Emily Bollman (ebollman@tedfordhousing.org) or fill out the form below.

A Note About Food Donations: We are always grateful when community members think of Tedford; however, to ensure food safety and prevent waste, we cannot accept food donations at the door. All meal donations must be part of the Meal-A-Month program or arranged in advance with our Volunteer Coordinator, Emily Bollman.

Other Ways to Lend a Hand

There are many ways to get involved with Tedford Housing beyond direct service with guests, and we’re always exploring new ways for community members to plug in. As our work continues to evolve across programs and in our new space, volunteer support plays an important role behind the scenes and across our organization.

Whether you’re interested in administrative support, transportation assistance, organizing supplies, helping with special projects, or lending a hand with light maintenance or set-up, we’d love to learn more about your skills and interests. Please fill out the form below and tell us a bit about yourself—we’ll work with you to find a volunteer opportunity that fits.
