Vote to help Tedford Housing win $5,000 from Bangor Savings Bank #CMM2019

February 6, 2019 By Jennifer Leave a Comment

Community matters. We wouldn’t be able to address homelessness, food insecurity or access to healthcare without it.

We are thankful for the support of our community partners and friends, Oasis Free Clinics, Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program and The Gathering Place who are urging their supporters to write in Tedford Housing as a Cumberland County charity in the Community Matters More contest.

The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation believes in giving back to our communities. And we believe that by focusing on the needs that matter most to our neighbors and friends we matter more in the daily lives of our fellow community members.

In March, the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation will give more than $140,000 to 55 local nonprofit organizations. They are looking to the community to help them decide how to best distribute these funds. Cast your vote for Tedford Housing as a Cumberland County write-in at www.bangor.com/cmm during the month of February 2019.

The power of community is strong. Please vote online at www.bangor.com/cmm and add Tedford Housing as a write-in for Cumberland County. Voting happens throughout the entire month of February. You must be a Maine or New Hampshire resident and are allowed 1 online entry per person/email address.

BRUNSWICK, Maine (September 3, 2015) – Tedford Housing, a nonprofit agency working to find lasting solutions to end homelessness, was recently awarded grants from the Stephen & Tabitha King Foundation and the John T. Gorman Foundation. The total amount of funding awarded was $42,500.

The Stephen & Tabitha King Foundation awarded Tedford Housing $20,000 as the result of a grant application. The funds will be used over the course of a year to help to insure the availability of case management services throughout all of the Tedford’s programs, particularly for those individuals without a payor source for services.

The John T. Gorman Foundation awarded $22,500 to Tedford Housing in grant money. The funds will be used to provide support for mental health services to guests of Tedford’s emergency adult shelter.

“Foundation support is critical for Tedford Housing in order to fulfill its mission,” says executive director Craig Phillips. “These funds will allow our case managers to provide much-needed services to Tedford’s guests so that they may be able to find and maintain permanent housing.”

Brunswick Student Submits Proposal to the Forest Foundation

Tedford Housing is pleased to announce the receipt of a $1,000 gift from the Forest Foundation, a private regional funder that works to foster the next generation of public service leaders through creative programming that give students the opportunity to engage in philanthropy. Niles Dorn, who is completing his freshman year at Brunswick High School, was given the opportunity to analyze local non-profit organizations and make a case to the Forest Foundation on where to give $1,000. Niles chose the Merrymeeting Homeless Youth Program, (MHYP)a partnership of Tedford Housing and three local school systems (Brunswick, Bath/RSU1 and Topsham/SAD75).

In his proposal submission to the foundation Niles said, “I wanted to donate to a nonprofit that really helped with major problems that can threaten life.” When Niles visited Tedford’s office he shared that he was impressed with the success of MHYP citing the fact that seven out of eight high school seniors who worked with Tedford’s MHYP Outreach Coordinator Donna Verhoeven graduated from high school last year.  Niles also noted that during his interview with Tedford’s Board President Craig McEwen, he learned about the recent reduction in public funding for MHYP. “I realized that $1,000 would make a big difference to this program.”

Androscoggin Bank’s MainStreet Foundation Awards $2,500 for Summer Youth Programming

Tedford Housing also received a $2,500 grant award from Androscoggin Bank’s MainStreet Foundation for summer support for homeless youth. Tedford’s application to the MainStreet Foundation highlighted the additional difficulties faced by homeless students in the summer when they do not have many of the support resources available as they do during the school year. The MainStreet Foundation awards grants to organizations working with at-risk youth.
