Join Us for a Sukkot Celebration on Saturday, October 19th

October 16, 2019 By Rota Knott Leave a Comment

Come Inside: Learn, Celebrate, Act
A Sukkot Celebration
Saturday, October 19th from 4:00-6:00pm
Dudley Coe Quad, Bowdoin College

The festival of Sukkot, named after the booths or huts in which Jews are supposed to dwell during the celebration, begins five days after Yom Kippur. This year Sukkot falls between October 13 and 20. During Sukkot, Jewish communities build temporary structures to commemorate the sheltering of the Israelites as they left Egypt and wandered in the desert for 40 years. Elise Hocking and Annie Rose, former summer fellows at Tedford Housing through Bowdoin College, believe the holiday can be a launching pad for discussion and reflection on homelessness in the Midcoast area. On Saturday, they and Bowdoin Hillel, the foundation for Jewish campus life, will be hosting a celebration in a sukkah on the Dudley Coe Quad that includes food, music and education about housing and homelessness in the Brunswick community. We hope you will join us in the celebration no matter your religious background!
