The Brunswick Area Interfaith Council established Tedford in 1987 after a growing number of people sought shelter at mid coast Maine churches. Today Tedford is the primary agency providing shelter and services to families and individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in mid coast Maine.
We operate two emergency shelters (one for single adults and one for families) and four permanent, supportive housing facilities. Complementary programming includes a homelessness prevention program, a Master Lease program and an outreach/case management program for homeless and at-risk youth.
In 2006, the board of directors changed the name from Tedford Shelter to Tedford Housing to reflect a strategic shift in mission focusing on ending homelessness by the creation of supportive housing options and homelessness prevention.
During the past five years, the budget has tripled, new programs have been added, and Tedford has grown to be a Maine leader in providing services to homeless and at-risk adults and families. Tedford Housing is now poised to take a major step forward in meeting its mission by expanding our supportive housing programs to the Lewiston-Auburn area.
